First thoughts
The first word I came up with? Charming, I felt it was simply a charming book. I read many creatively based books for review purpose, but this one really merits that word without any backstory. It has brought a smile to my face - here’s why.
About the author
I found it insightful to learn that she came from a design and furniture creating background - beginning to learn this skill in 2011, but maybe her past history of other creative genres makes for her work to be a bit different that your every day crochet patterns? The book content - Brief main points
Thirteen projects are taught, each has that playful angle which she alludes to within the introduction.
To get a sense of the book’s direction, read the intro. The author straight away reveals her muse - her own baby love - her three year old daughter. Does that not warm you to the book and writer straight away? Maybe that is just me.
This is a book which makes you want to make for the special people in your life. This is no tit for tat gift giving exercise, you know the story when during celebrations or festivities you get given a gift by someone then you feel you have to give them something in return. No, this is love. You will, I tell you use this book to make for your best friend, your daughter, your….whoever is special.
The crochet making and the details made afterward may both take the same time in doing. The finished details to make ‘beautiful’ is of importance here. Think good enough to photograph and post on social media.
The colour way is subtle throughout, think pastel baby pinks, creams with just a notion of colour tint. Direction and encouragement for personal colour choice is vocalised, so do not be afraid to step away from the authors given choice.
All details, the tools, materials and techniques are transcribed.
Who is it aimed at?
If you have this book, you will want to make for that special someone, maybe of the smaller, lesser in years variety! Unless of course, you fancy dressing up in fairy wings and playing on your hobby horse….the crochet variety of course!
Special points
The images are of particular note, certain models have been used, all children and they have been captured at play - all thanked at the end of the book. It is nice to see the pieces getting used rather than simply modeled on a chair or hung up to show the finished look.
The nordic toned down quiet colour palette reigns strong throughout, giving the book a continuous flow.
Final thoughts
It is just so sweet, but not in a tacky way. But really, you do have to have or know a smaller someone to use this book to its best degree - but I am sure you will find someone as an excuse!
