Handmade Happiness, Better Day Books
Better Day Books always promise to be an upbuilding read. I look at the cover initially, soft back but durable, bright and colourful - no faded tones or atmosphere here.
Who is it for?
Us. That is the everyday person, not the experienced artist. The person who loves the idea of craft and is at a level to learn. The bright and colourful character appeals, it is accessible and the author in retrospect after reading is relatable.
Yarn…Do I need to knit?
Nope. Sad to say, I can’t either. I try, but the idea of playing with the beautiful wools and yarns which do this as a usual prescribed job sounds fun and a relief to me. I will explain a bit more….imagine you need a gift, a project for a purpose, say a child - it is all here - with no need for a knitting pattern - the question is - what can I do with wool/yarn whatever you wish to refer to it as?
The writer
This book is social media, our age, modern and right now. It is present. Her intro welcome letter is just so down to earth. This is a mum who found time a few children in, to pick up a craft worth creating. She mentions the word therapy. Maybe it has been for her and that is the vibe she is going for. I felt at no time under “threat” with too hard to catch up with projects. She comes to the level you are at, explains it all without patronisation - do not imagine that the enthusiasm is a lack of understanding. This is a lady who wants to share her love and she has got a platform to voice it - go her. She is described as a content creator - so obviously a big show on social media too. She has a website which shows that same enthusiasm - she is authentic. Also her history as an English teacher helps to provide an easily understood publication. She has brought visible and maybe subliminal colour into her own life and thus is in a state where she can pass that onto her followers and readers alike. Having published in media, magazines and then this book makes her work visible to a greater audience - we do not have to be online - just in a bookstore or postal service. She is a family lady - husband, kids…so she will understand time keeping and commitments too. If she can…well…you get what I am saying.
