Red Ties - Red Line - Binary Narratives
This body of work comprises of themes which link my grandmother and myself. As a young child, she told me many stories, but the one I loved most was Red Riding Hood. I begged her to tell it over and over again, changing the story each time to make in new to my ears. I have reflected back on our lives and similarities here, having also been inspired by my own poetry about us.
Mostly stitched drawings are seen, hand embroidered with trappings of our clothing fabrics. The drawings are expressive and contain red thread to highlight the idea that she told me the story of Red Riding Hood.
This was finally developed into a collection of wearable hand embellished and printed items; many simplified in design to convey the path and knots of a life well worn.
This will be an ongoing project of mine.
