Narrative Portraits
Stories, we all have them. Be it personal, familial, imagined, lived.
Within this workshop, you will be guided through ways of narrating your personal story through creative practice.
Using a personal memory, maybe a photograph, I will guide you through the process of capturing the essence of a person.
Recently I published my own first title: Narrative Textiles: Tell your Story in Mixed Media and Stitch (Batsford, 2024), This will be used as a tool and resource. I will nurture you through the process of creating your piece and all skill levels are provided for. I name this class Narrative Portraits, yet it is not solely about the human face, this is about capturing the essence of what it means to be human or animal. It could be inspired more about the qualities of a person, their quirks and the little things that makes or made them them. I have had all sorts of outcomes produced - grandmothers to famous book characters - the choice is yours.
The methods of stitch and collage will be explored - all materials will be provided if you are attending this as an in person class. However do feel free to bring personal artefacts along, such as collage, photos and letters to inspire you.
Before the session ends, there will be guidance given for framing the work - canvas, mounted - the choice is yours in the future.
